Who’s Emily? And what’s an “Oymun” show, you ask?
The Emily Project is named after L.A.-based actress Ms Emily Kuroda, best known for her theater work, as well as for her role as Mrs. Kim on TV’s Gilmore Girls.
An Oymun show is a minimalist theatrical piece, conceived and created through a series of facilitated workshops by a cast of 8-16 and curated by the facilitator/director Jason Oymun Fong.
From what I hear, they’ve taken a bunch of serious actors and developed some comedic and poignant vignettes entirely through improvisation. Director Jason Fong has taken some of the improvs and scripted and shaped them into something totally unique. The proceeds will support TNKat.org’s “The Connector Project”, best known for its Tuesday Night Project – an arts space with a focus to 1) strengthen/support the Asian Pacific Islander (API) arts/community voice, 2) connect with other artists, youth, community throughout LA, & 3) connect with people beyond LA through innovative technology/web-based programs.
Tomorrow night is your only chance to experience The Emily Project at the Electric Lodge in Venice.
