Ok, so I put that last bit in to get all the Tila Tequila trolls to check this out.
After trying desperately not to see (and failing miserably) the whole debacle of so-called bisexual Tila Tequila’s show, A Shot At Love II, it’s kinda nice to see MTV’s sister network, Logo, which is one of the few cable networks specifically for the LGBT community, featuring real Asian American dykes on TV in their new reality series, Gimme Sugar. The main premise of the show is about a group of friends, who are all queer women, three of them being Asian American, who want to start up a new lesbian club in LA, after one of them gets caught trying to sneak into one with a fake ID. The first episode just premiered this week, and you can watch the episodes online if you can’t get Logo from your cable or satellite provider.
After watching the first episode, it just reminded me of all the dyke drama that I had to deal with when I was in grad school. (Little known fact: When I was in graduate school at UC Santa Barbara, I ended up being the gay Asian male “mother hen” to all these baby Asian dykes who were doing their undergrad there. I’m still friends with all of them–but now their drama is grown up dyke drama. Hoo boy.) Otherwise, it looks like it’ll be pretty fun, and you actually get to see different types of lesbians, like butch Davonee, unlike The L Word that showed all femme girls (and one FTM towards the end, but oh well). Too bad Gimme Sugar’s only for 6 episodes.
Now if only Logo did something with hot gay Asian guys in it! (Another note: I almost got featured on Logo for a reality series featuring queer Asian Americans, but I got rejected because I wasn’t dramatic enough. The husband was laughing at me for weeks after that.)
