Jane Kim Campaign Kick-Off Speech for San Francisco District 6 Supervisor

This past week, Jane Kim, current President of the San Francisco Board of Education and a civil rights attorney at Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, kicked off her campaign to become District 6 city supervisor. San Francisco District 3 Supervisor and Supervisor Board President David Chiu gave a nice intro.

I met Jane over four years ago when she was first running for the school board, the first Korean-American ever elected in San Francisco. Since then, I’ve been impressed with Jane’s energy and commitment to the San Francisco community, and has done quite a bit for someone only 32 years old.

What most impressed me with Jane and her speech was her passion and commitment to the issues she cares about: public education, affordable housing and race relations. Her experience growing up as an immigrant child in New York City have profoundly shaped the person she is today. She and her family have lived the American dream, the land of opportunity, and Jane’s determination to help those less fortunate to do the same is inspiring. I don’t know about the other candidates running for District 6, but for those living in District 6, I hope you seriously consider voting for Jane this November.

About John

I'm a Taiwanese-American and was born & raised in Western Massachusetts, went to college in upstate New York, worked in Connecticut, went to grad school in North Carolina and then moved out to the Bay Area in 1999 and have been living here ever since - love the weather and almost everything about the area (except the high cost of housing...)
