Los Angeles: The First AAPI Rock the Vote

The first “Asian American, Pacific Islander Rock the Vote” is happening this Friday, September 17 at the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood, CA —  a nonpartisan event/concert to launch political awareness, show unity and numerical strength of the APA community, as well as to register new voters.

There will be performances by Quest Crew, Satellite, Dawen and Esna Yoon. Special guests in attendance will be Kelly Hu, Beau Sia, Lisa Ling, Archie Kao, James Kyson Lee, Justin Chon and more!

Here’s a personal plea from Lisa Ling to explain why she’s involved and why you should come out, after the jump.

Hello Friends!

As we all know, the November election is just around the corner and it is critical that Californian’s vote and vote in record numbers. Furthermore, it is even more critical that the Asian American Pacific Islander community rocks the vote because WE ARE the true margin of victory.

A few weeks ago, my husband Paul and I decided we needed to truly invigorate the AAPI community for the November election. Since that day, we have been organizing and planning an amazing event and WE NEED YOU to make it the best “Rock the Vote” event in California!

On Friday, September 17th, 2010 we will be rockin’ the house at the Ford Amphitheatre with AAPI musical and dance performances, AAPI elected officials, and AAPI organizations from all over California! Please join Paul and I, as well as the most amazing AAPI leaders in the state, as we reclaim California this election season.

Only with a strong unified voice is it possible to effect real change… and voting is one of the single most important things we as individuals can do to make sure we are counted and represented!
See you all Friday at the Ford!!!

Sincerely,
Lisa Ling

About jozjozjoz

jozjozjoz is a taiwanese-american gal who lives and blogs underneath the hollywood sign and who doesn’t clean her fishtank unless the fish starts to do the backstroke. she is also able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but cannot stop from bumping into door handles, cabinet doors, and anything else that protrudes or has a sharp edge. she does not run with scissors for this same reason. she can pet the fur off a dog but don’t ask her to go anywhere near a horse. or a moth. or a roach. her dealings with L.A.’s finest (aka the parking violations department) are legend, as are her giant sneezes. Other than the two too many joz’s, jozjozjoz is a perfectly normal, relatively sane individual who defies the odds, reaches for the stars, and carries moonbeams home in a jar. She’d rather be a fish… but not in her own dirty fishtank. http://www.jozjozjoz.com
