An Indonesian member of Parliament has resigned after being caught by a photographer watching porn on his tablet during a debate. The irony: this MP also helped pass one of the strictest anti-porn laws in the country.
Arifinto, who oversees a parliamentary commission dealing with transportation, telecommunications and rural development, was an outspoken supporter of the [anti-porn] law. He was caught watching the video clip for several minutes as fellow legislators debated plans to build a new parliament building.
This news is entirely amusing to me; for whatever reason, public individuals such as politicians pass laws that they themselves seem to disregard. Obviously this isn’t a new practice, nor is it geographical considering the bizarre circumstances that have encompassed American politics as of late. While this is not saying that liberal parties don’t have their own issues, it’s interesting that many of the politicians caught in scandals just happen to have some conservative ties.
Personally, I think every bored politician around the world should just follow the example of Taiwanese politics: instead of getting yourself into trouble by watching porn or embezzling, just get into a brawl; not only would you end up with your constituents cheering for you due to your “take no prisoners” policies, but you could put it on Pay-Per-View and totally decrease the national debt.
