If you’re an insomniac and/or like to stay up till the wee twilight hours of the night, there is sweet, blissful music for you night owls to listen to. Musician Scott Tang’s first fourth official album, appropriately titled A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Insomniac, is a collection of electronic singer-songwriter pieces about not being able to sleep and stories about a private [largely nocturnal] love affair in the city. Read more about my thoughts on the album after the jump.
The entire album is incredibly soothing with its beautiful, tranquil melody and Scott’s calm, slight electronic-tinged voice. This combined effect creates the perfect music for some late night relaxation as well as late night drives in the city. Imagine driving as you pass by the flashing city lights, the skyscrapers, and the neon signs while you have this album playing in your stereo. The effect is truly mesmerizing. Try it!
Scott Tang is a musician that the world needs to know. There’s nothing bombastic or showy about his music, with no fake attempts at trying to be cool or hip. It just is. Simplicity is this album’s greatest strength and beauty, where one can just listen and connect to his music with ease. If you enjoyed the song above, do yourself a HUGE favor and check out the rest of his album which can be purchased here through iTunes or through Amazon.
I leave you all with this hilarious bloopers reel from the music video:
