You can say that the all-girl pop group phenomenon began in Japan and was perfected by the Koreans and copied by the Taiwanese. But has the phenomenon spread to others parts of Asia? Watching these videos, I would say abso-freaking-lutely! Read my list, after the jump.

PHILIPPINES

Pop Girls

“The fabulous five who make up POP GIRLS are twins Lai and Mar, both aged 16 and half Lebanese; Half Filipino, half Dutch Rose, 13 years old; Half Filipino, half Swiss Schai, 14 years old; the only pure Filipino in the group”

“Sige Sige Sayaw” means “Go Go Dance”. The K-Pop influences are pretty obvious. It’s great that they actually sing in Tagalog and not English.

Eurasia

“The members are Lana Roi (half German, half Filipina), Kelly Gamboa (half British, half Filipina), Gail Nicolas (pure Filipina), Kristine Nieto (1/4 Japanese, 3/4 Filipina), and Sara Polverini (half Italian, half Filipina). ”

They look older and one of them looks like a tranny.

Kitty Girls

“Consisting of Jocelyn Oxlade, Ayanna Oliva, and Khai Lim”

Pretty smoking hot.

Mocha Girls

I can’t tell if they’re strippers or singers.

MALAYSIA

M-Girls

“M-Girls (Chinese: 四个女生) is a three-member Malaysian girl group that was formed around 2001, mainly releasing Chinese New Year albums every year for the Malaysian Chinese community.”

These girls are embarrassing. And I’m disappointed these girls sing in Mandarin instead of Malay.

Candy

“Candy is an all-female Malaysian rock band formed in 1996. They were entered into the Malaysian Book of Records as the first all-women band in Malaysia.”

Rock n Roll in Malay! I like it!

Senoritas

The Senoritas are an independent Malaysian R&B group.

INDIA

I really thought there would be a lot more Indian girl groups, but I could only find one. Does anyone know of more?

Viva!

“Viva is an Indian pop girl group that formed in 2002, and have disbanded since. The band was composed of the winners of the first season of Indian version of the international television talent show Popstar… The five original members were Seema Ramchandani, Pratichee Mohapatra, Neha Bhasin, Mahua Kamat, and Anushka Manchanda.”

Stay tuned for Parts 2 and 3!
