The Hollywood Reporter reported that Nintama Rantaro (Ninja Kids!!) has garnered some interest from Hollywood. Ninja Kids, directed by prolific director Takashi Miike (13 Assassins), is a live-action adaptation of a Japanese TV show about…ninja kids. The film was released in Japan in last month.

Negotiations are reported to already be underway with a “major production company.” The article doesn’t provide many details about the actual negotiations, but does go on to mention that Miike’s Ninja Kids garnered attention from US producers after a strong showing at the New York Asian Film Festival.

It looks mad silly, but “silly” might actually work in its favor as an American adaptation. KIDS LOVE NINJAS, YO!

So, what’s your take? If an Asian film can garner attention from Hollywood due to an Asian film festival, what’s it gonna take for an Asian American film (starring Asian Americans) to get picked up? Granted, American remakes of Asian films are nothing new and if the Ninja Kids adaptation ever does occur, it will be with an American cast. And we all know how that works out.

But hey, who knows? Maybe Hollywood will surprise us and cast Asian Americ…blah blah blah, yeah okay.
