Filmmaker Grace Lee is making a documentary on Asian American food, and she wants your stories and ideas.
“Asian Chops” (the current working title) will look at Asian America through the lens of food. A kickoff party, food panel, and brainstorming session for the film was held at CAAMFest for the joint Center for Asian American Media and PBS production. You can listen to the audio from the meeting, including an overview from Grace Lee and many stories about Asian American food. The best stories and suggestions will make it into the film. Among the things she is looking for are the best/worst named Asian Restaurant. My suggestion is shown in the picture above.
Asian Chops is planned to air on PBS in June 2014, and many things are fluid about it, including the title. You can shape the project by sharing your stories with Grace or sending feedback on the following four questions:
- What’s a great title for this project?
- What topics or stories or communities are you interested in seeing in this film?
- If you could only eat one Asian dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?
- Suggestions for the best/worst named Asian Restaurant. Where is it?
Stories and responses to these questions can be sent to [email protected].
