8$ is a series which occasionally highlights interesting crowdfunding projects. Every day, the 8Asians team is inundated by many worthy pitches. We are unable to highlight every one that comes our way, or even the ones we might individually support. The projects selected for 8$ are not endorsements by 8Asians. (To be considered for 8$, we highly suggest you not harass the writers or the editors of 8Asians.)
WHO: Cynthia Lin
WHAT: Kickstarter project: CAPTURING THE MAGIC: Help Cynthia Lin and the Blue Moon All Stars make a new album – and zombie video.
WHEN: Deadline to contribute is Saturday Nov 16, 3:00pm EST.
WHY:
WHY A NEW ALBUM?
BECAUSE THE BAND SOUNDS AWESOME and WE WANT YOU TO HEAR IT! We believe we really have something special. We want to capture our stage energy in a professional quality live studio recording, and share it with you. This music will make your ears happy, your heart full, and move your soul.WHY A ZOMBIE VIDEO?
Music videos have become one of the main ways that listeners find out about new music. The song ZOMBIE HEART is gleeful, quirky, and the perfect visual vehicle for sharing our “little big band” sound. Plus, we have the opportunity to work with an amazing animation artist to produce a combination live action / animation music video. A love song about zombies! A stumbling, zombie acoustic/ukulele/brass band and awesome animation! Guaranteed to put a smile on your face. 🙂WHY HELP?
We love making music together, and we’re reaching out directly to the music lovers and zombie lovers who believe in our projects for help and support. We want you to be part of the journey, and only with you can we reach our goal. If you can help us reach our $7500 goal, then you become part of our new album. You become part of our zombie world.
THE BACKSTORY: HOW THE BLUE MOON ALL STARS CAME TO BE
Hi, I’m Cynthia Lin. I’m a singer/songwriter who has mostly been performing solo over my 8 years in music. (Get a pay what you want download of my latest album Microscope here) Now, I’d like to present my sweet Bay Area band, the Blue Moon All Stars.
Lenny, David, Renie, Andy, and Albert (and Brian and April, who now live in Japan but will always be BMAS in spirit) met through Cal Band at UC Berkeley. Shortly after I moved to San Francisco from NYC, we began jamming together, and several jam sessions later, we decided on a band name and debuted as the Blue Moon All Stars at the SF Taiwan Fest 2011.
After playing together for 2 years, we have a cohesive set of songs (including new arrangements of some tunes from my solo records + brand new original tunes) that we’re ready to record. Our live performances in the Bay Area have been met with great reception, and we’re excited to capture that energy and sound and share it with the world beyond.
OUR SOUND
We don’t have a professional recording yet (hence this project), but here’s a live take of Zombie Heart (will have additional guitar and sax for studio recording). I like to call us a “little big band” – horns, ukulele, acoustic percussion, and a soulful approach define our sound.
