Asian American Commercial Watch: John Cho in GE’s “Brilliant Enterprise”

I saw this General Electric television ad last week and loved it since: 1. I am a fan of Star Trek and 2. I am a fan of the actor John Cho. When I first saw this ad, I was wondering, “Wow, that must be an expensive ad to have licensed Star Trek movie footage,” as well as, “I wonder if they had to shoot additional footage with John Cho for this commercial or did GE just have some special effects magic to make it look so seamless.”

This commercial has been with a whole series of GE’s “Brilliant Machines” campaign, trying to make the industrial giant look cool in the era of “Big Data” and the “Internet of Things.” As GE describes in the YouTube video, “GE’s Brilliant Machines transform raw data into efficiencies. Our deep-sea fuel technology helps us discover and maximize resources in extreme conditions. Which might come in handy for the U.S.S. Enterprise as it attempts to live long and prosper in deep space.”

Being a fan of the movie Back to the Future, my favorite ad from this GE television campaign still is The Future is Now.

About John

I'm a Taiwanese-American and was born & raised in Western Massachusetts, went to college in upstate New York, worked in Connecticut, went to grad school in North Carolina and then moved out to the Bay Area in 1999 and have been living here ever since - love the weather and almost everything about the area (except the high cost of housing...)
