The Aconic™ Podcast – Inspiring Stories of Asian and AAPI Icons

A friend of mine is involved in this recently launched podcast, The Aconic™ Podcast – Inspiring Stories of Asian and AAPI Icons:

“The Aconic™ Podcast features candid conversations with successful Asian and AAPI icons who share their personal journeys of challenges and triumphs. We delve into their experiences, including the obstacles they faced and how they overcame them, as well as the seminal moments of hope, frustration, determination, and achievement that led to their success. Through these stories, we explore the key lessons they learned and how they’ve used them to create lasting impact in their fields.”

The podcast was officially launched back this recent September. It is sponsored by Altos Ventures, the Founders of the Asian Alumni Chapter of Stanford Graduate School of Business, The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), and Gold House and hosted by Soon Yu, an international speaker, award-wining and best-selling author, and Forbes contributor who has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Entrepreneur Magazine, and New York Times.

I’ve been behind on a lot of things due to work and personal matters, but did get to start listening to the podcast starting with episode 2:

Debby Soo was very candid, and she revealed something new that she said she had never revealed publicly, something personal – her divorce. It was really interesting to hear the up’s and down’s of Debby’s career and life.

As of this writing, the most recent podcast is with Andrew Yang:

I was around the day that the podcast was recorded – over this past July 2024 – as Andrew had also held a in-person event in the San Francisco Bay Area that was hosted by Asian Alumni Chapter of Stanford Graduate School of Business, which I was fortunate enough to attend. I’m guessing Aconic wanted to build up a library of podcasts before launching the podcast.

I first interviewed Andrew back in the Summer of 2018 and in the Fall of 2021 back when Andrew was first launching the Forward Party, and again in July 2022 when the Forward Party merged with Serve America Movement (SAM) and the Renew America Movement (RAM), and also had a chance to interview, along with Andrew, former Governor of New Jersey, Christine Todd Whitman (co-chair of the Forward Party) in April 2023. Thus I am very familiar with Andrew, but this interview is quite holistic in regards Andrew’s journey, from his immigrant parents’ background to his overall reflections on his successes and failures.

Looks like there are a lot of great podcast interviews coming up:

  • CEO of KKR, Joe Bae
  • CEO of Ancestry, Deb Liu
  • Mayor of Cincinnati, Aftab Pureval
  • CEO and Chairman of Bain, Manny Maceda
  • Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu
  • CEO & Co-Founder of Gold House, Bing Chen
  • CEO of Rothys, Jenny Ming
  • Altos VC Managing Partner, Ho Nam
  • Miss Asia USA, Tiffany Chang
  • CEO of Weee, Larry Liu
  • Youtube Co-founder, Steve Chen
  • CEO of HubSpot, Yamini Rangan
  • CEO of TAAF, Norman Chen

Looking forward to listening these interviews!

About John

I'm a Taiwanese-American and was born & raised in Western Massachusetts, went to college in upstate New York, worked in Connecticut, went to grad school in North Carolina and then moved out to the Bay Area in 1999 and have been living here ever since - love the weather and almost everything about the area (except the high cost of housing...)
