Junie Hoang’s IMDB Lawsuit Raises Online Privacy Questions

Remember the Asian American actress who was anonymously suing IMDB for revealing her actual age? While Junie Hoang claimed the website’s action has been detrimental to her career, her lawsuit could be opening more doorways. From the New York Times: ““Hundreds of people have come to us,” John W. Dozier Jr., who represents Ms. Hoang, said….[He] contended that “hundreds or thousands of people” might have similar claims, opening the door either to a class-action suit against Amazon and IMDb, or to additional suits challenging the site’s use of data…the core assertions in Ms. Hoang’s complaint relate not to the publication of age, per se, but rather to the way in which IMDb supposedly got its information.” Oh, the problems that Asian women have for looking younger than their age.

About Moye

I am a Japanese-American girl who was born, raised and is most probably stuck in traffic right this second in Los Angeles. I'm currently one of the co-editors of 8Asians and like to distract myself with good food, reading long books, playing video games, catching up on celebrity news, choosing my new new haircut and then writing all about it on Hello Moye and sometimes here on Twitter if I can get it in under 140 words or less. You can reach me at moye[at]8asians.com.
