I was lucky enough to catch the Men’s Visa 2008 Championship that aired on NBC today, where the best men in the U.S. competed for a chance to compete in the Olympic team trials coming up. I saw Fremont-born Kevin Tan rock it on the rings, placing first in the event over all of his competitors, and winning third in the overall competition (a fall from the high bar on the first day…unfortunate!)
Another fellow Asian-American to watch, Raj Bhavsar from Houston, TX…explosive on the gymnastics floor but a bit unrefined, really fun to watch, placed 9th in the Visa championship competition.
Watch this really *hokey* video below, if you ignore the Cirque-du-Soleil ridiculousness (with those horrendous gold pants) and the really random Josh Groban soundtrack to this amazing gymnastics feat, you can really see how both Raj and Kevin Tan really are so amazingly strong on the rings. Kevin’s segment begins at 3:14 into the video.
(Side note: Does anyone else think that Kevin Tan’s tatoo on his lower back is hot?)
