After Janet Liang died, one of the people mentioned who also needed a bone marrow transplant was 2 year old Jeremy Kong. Jeremy, whose situation is explained in the video above, suffered from Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The Kong Family blog reports that Jeremy received a bone marrow transplant on November 28, 2012 from a donor from Hong Kong.
Although Jeremy found a match, it is notable that the donor was found in Hong Kong and not in the U.S., and it is fortunate that the donor followed through for a child an ocean away. The donor’s location tells me that more Asian Americans should register with the bone marrow registries. Agencies like the Asian American Donor Program continually host events to get more people registered.
