Women’s MMA has been on the rise with Invicta FC’s successful production and the UFC adding a whole new weight division, strawweight 115-lbs, and having the first all-female cast for their reality show The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). I always hear about Japanese female MMA fighters in Jewels, but I don’t hear much about women’s MMA elsewhere in Asia.
The largest MMA organization in Asia, One FC, does have women’s bouts, and last October 2013, an undercard fight between two women, Singapore’s Sherilyn Lim and Malaysia’s Ann Osman, drew a lot of international buzz and interest. Their fight is actually incredibly entertaining to watch, the two women being really well matched for a fight that went back and forth with many exciting moments.

Lim and Osman were scheduled for a rematch this month, but unfortunately, Lim did not make weight and Osman’s camp decided not to take the fight as a result. Hopefully, the rematch is still in the cards for these two, because more successful, pioneering women’s MMA bouts would mean more women’s MMA in Asia, and I’d love to see what each country has to offer in the form of female athlete fighters.
