Traveling Taiwan: Leaving Taiwan (Part 24 of 24)

All too soon, my two week trip to Taiwan came to an end, and before we knew it, we were heading to the airport to fly back to the States. Our drive over to the international airport in Taoyuan at least had a beautiful sky view from the freeway.

When we got to the terminal, our EVA Air check in was a flurry of Hello Kitty, complete with lounge, terminals, and Kitty flight attendant.

Arriving at the airport early is not an unpleasant experience here, as there were plenty of food court options to choose from. My last meal was a hearty Hong Kong porridge with sweet tofu and green tea bun for dessert.

For anyone hankering for a burger, Burger King was readily available inside the international terminal as well.

Also, a handy thing I found there was a portable electronic device charger. If I had needed to charge anything, I imagine I would have really appreciated this.

There were also plenty of stores for some last minute shopping before leaving the country. I was able to find a portable loose-leaf tea set, which I wish I had picked up at the beginning of the trip and not at the end, but at least I’m now well-equipped for next time. Also, the national museum also had a gift shop there, and I picked up this nice coaster to add to my home tea experience.

Unfortunately, our EVA flight back was not Hello Kitty, but it was pleasant enough. I’m glad we got to experience the Hello Kitty flight on the way there at least.

All in all, the experience was educational, inspiring, and provided us with lots of healthy fresh air and exercise. Going back to Taiwan before with family or for studies was always about going to school or spending time with family, and since I went with friends this time and focused on really just enjoying Taiwan as a tourist, it was a whole new experience.

I highly recommend Taiwan as vacation destination for other Americans because it offers much in terms of unique experiences, beautiful natural escapes, and cultural richness but at the same time is very safe, convenient, and affordable.

I’d say my favorite part of Taiwan is the central mountain area where there’s an ineffable magical quality uniquely Taiwan in essence, something you can’t feel or experience anywhere else. I definitely plan on going back to revel in those mountains again in the future.
