Our internal e-mail lists have us discussing all kinds of stuff: Asian American identity, representation in the media, the experiences of activism in an academia setting and its progression as we transition to the working, adult world. And sometimes, we take a break from just talking about Charice to actually watch her and Harry Shum Jr. on television.
Read some of our observations of Charice’s first episode on Glee, after the jump.
Jeff: Did anyone watch this last night? How was Charice? Was her Botox job apparent?
Mihee: I have to say she was actually really good…and endearing! I’d heard about the Botox but don’t really understand why she did it. Isn’t she still a teenager? Ironically Lea Michele’s character was supremely annoying – well, that’s to be expected – and her singing wasn’t as compelling as Charice’s!
Koji: Honestly, I was just happy to see Harry get some lines. Go Asian men!
Tim: I don’t think many people were paying attention to his lines, just his abs. Not really knowing anything about Charice, I thought she was pretty cute in the episode.
Koji: I don’t think she was cute. I kept wanting her to look like Grace Park. Her singing was good though.
But enough about us — what did you think of the resurfaced Asian club on Glee?
