Periodically, my husband jokes that he’d like me to trade in my clergy collar for golf clubs just to see how I’d do since apparently being a Korean woman would give me some kind of advantage. That would be interesting to see: I like to think I’m relatively athletic, but I’m also a klutz and actually I have swung a club before and I feel ungraceful and awkward. I haven’t heard much about Wie lately after her first pro win awhile back, and forgot about her until the Kia commercial. I still think she’s amazing. But, it’s super cool that there’s yet another great woman golfer who happens to be Korean and quite successful.
On Sunday, In-Kyung Kim won the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, her third-career LPGA win. But, I think what struck me the most about this young lady is that she did something fairly extraordinary with her winnings: She donated it. All of it. She donated all of her winnings to a couple of charities. It’s a wonderful gesture, and makes me admire her more for her compassion and not only her grace in the sport. We’ve got the likes of Tiger Woods, and I don’t even know what is going on with Anthony Kim – I guess everyone is entitled to whatever with their money.
I love thinking that my kids someday will have these amazing AA role models – and that they are women!
