In the upcoming movie adaptation of the beloved comic, The Green Hornet (and it’s in 3D!) Taiwanese sensation Jay Chou steps into the role of Kato and Seth Rogen plays the title character. But let’s face it — let’s face it — Kato is the true hero. Without him, Britt Reid would be nothing. He’d just be a douche wearing a mask — but that’s beside the point.
The most important thing about this post is me (of course). I had the opportunity to drive Black Beauty, the automobile celebrity of the film. For one moment, I slipped into the role of Kato (sans mask and black suit — although I do wish I was wearing both). Equipped with guns and Green Hornet logos, I went cruising in the actual superhero sedan used in the movie. Despite the non-functioning windows and loud roar of the engine (and I think the fumes were seeping into the interior), it was actually kind of cool. The buttons and switches were labeled with Asian characters — which I later learned were a combination of Asian characters that may or may not have meant something. Either way, I felt unbelievably awesome and superhero-like while driving around San Francisco’s Union Square with onlookers gawking at my ride.
My only complaint: the guns didn’t work. I could have really used those to alleviate the problem of pesky pedestrians.
