I admit it. I’m a scaredy cat, which is why I can’t even watch the trailer I just posted for I Saw The Devil (악마를 보았다). I’m actually kind of getting scared by just typing out the title of the film! But enough about my wussiness!

If you’re the kind of person who is into horror films, or if you already know the work of genre master Kim Ji-woon, who directed A Tale of Two Sisters, you’ll be happy to know that Kim’s latest film– I Saw the Devil— opens in the Bay area on March 11, 2011 at Landmark’s Lumiere Theatre in San Francisco and Landmark’s Shattuck Cinemas in Berkeley.

Lee Byung-hyun (The Good, the Bad and the Weird) stars as Dae-hoon, a special agent whose pregnant wife becomes the latest victim of a disturbed and brutal serial killer, captivatingly played by Oldboy’sChoi Min-sik. Vowing revenge, Dae-hoon blurs the lines between hunter and hunted and good and evil, eventually becoming a monster himself in his twisted pursuit of revenge. From Korean genre master KIM Jee-woon (The Good, The Bad and The Weird and A Tale of Two Sisters) I SAW THE DEVIL is shockingly violent and stunningly accomplished, transcending the police procedural and pushing the boundaries of extreme Asian cinema in surprising and thrilling new ways.

This film is not for the squeamish (like me) and has disturbing extreme violence; “For Mature Audiences Only.” The film’s running time is 141 minutes, and is not rated. In Korean; fully subtitled in English.

What are other reviewers saying about this film?

“An unflinching gaze into the heart of pure evil and a perverse genre entertainment par excellence.” – Variety

“One fantastically hypnotic movie. It may be the most hypnotic serial killer story since The Silence of the Lambs, and it’s certainly one of the best thrillers I’ve seen in a few years.” – Fearnet

“Damned if it isn’t riveting from the word ‘go’.” – The Onion

“The textbook definition of an instant cult classic.” – Bloody Disgusting

“9 out of 10. Nothing short of staggering. A cool, confident, and sometimes stunningly beautiful film.” – Firstshowing.net

About jozjozjoz

jozjozjoz is a taiwanese-american gal who lives and blogs underneath the hollywood sign and who doesn’t clean her fishtank unless the fish starts to do the backstroke. she is also able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but cannot stop from bumping into door handles, cabinet doors, and anything else that protrudes or has a sharp edge. she does not run with scissors for this same reason. she can pet the fur off a dog but don’t ask her to go anywhere near a horse. or a moth. or a roach. her dealings with L.A.’s finest (aka the parking violations department) are legend, as are her giant sneezes. Other than the two too many joz’s, jozjozjoz is a perfectly normal, relatively sane individual who defies the odds, reaches for the stars, and carries moonbeams home in a jar. She’d rather be a fish… but not in her own dirty fishtank. http://www.jozjozjoz.com
