Back in May, University of California at Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu confirmation for the U.S. Court of Appeals was blocked in the Senate due to Republican opposition based on his past comments on Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito. In July, Governor Jerry Brown nominated Liu for the California Supreme Court. There’s an effort to support Liu’s confirmation lead by the Alliance for Justice (“a national association of more than 100 organizations dedicated to advancing justice and democracy.) Part of the nomination process includes an open comment period that permits Californians to write to the Commission on Judicial Appointments and express their views about his qualifications and whether they support or oppose his nomination. If you are so inclined, consider making your support known!
